Researchers compared 1,100 girls- aged between 5 and 20- in 1991-1993 with 995 in 2006-2008. While the average age of breast development fell by a full year for girls in the 2000’s, the oneset of menarche did not see sharp difference. The early onset of puberty could be the result of environmental exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals that mimic oestrogen in the body.
